We’ve recently started our 3 week Gospel Truth Series,
a question keeps ringing in my ears, What is the Gospel? last week training definition is this ;
The gospel is a biblical account of God’s loving and gracious act of saving a sinful man through the redemptive work of Christ.
Here’s my journal notes from my bible study time. the Gospel in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 1:11-20
11 “The multitude of your sacrifices– what are they to me? ” says the Lord. “I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
/ The Gospel is not about our offerings, sacrifices or anything that we could do. In fact, there’s nothing we could do or give that could ever pay Him back. So if that’s the case what should we do? please read on… /
12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations – I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
/ Gospel is not about rituals, programs, tradition or anything of religion. The Gospel is not just a story from the bible./
14 Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me;I am weary of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood;
/It’s an insult to God when we try to do things to cover up (hide) or compensate for our sins. Rather than the Love of Christ compelling us to do things OF Him and FOR and all this is by His Amazing and Enabling Grace freely given to Us/
16 wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, 17 learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
/ God desires our obedience’s rather than our sacrifices . It’s not about being legalistic but for our freedom ….from sin, guilt, condemnation, bondage etc. The Gospel are the things God wants to do IN our lives and to others THROUGH our lives./
18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land;
More than anything else, God’s heart is not to give us do’s and don’ts. The desire of His heart is all that’s BEST, pleasing and PERFECT for us. That’s what the Gospel does.
The love of Christ compels us. As we receive more of His love. Our source. The more we do, see, think and feel of the things of God.What’s on His heart will be in our hearts too.
Instead of working OUR way to become holy, pleasing acceptable to God. The Gospel is LETTING God continue His majestic work IN us and THROUGH our lives.
Gospel is a person.
